- A separate application is required and can be found at https://www.wku.edu/chf/applications/index.php. Martin Hire was born in 1777 in Augusta, Virginia. He died in 1828 in Smith County, Tennessee. Martin Hire was the first of the Hire family to come to the area now known as Macon County, Tennessee. Martin Hire is the great, great grandfather of Osby Lee Hire. Rev. Harvey Jent (1860-1948) of Macon County, Tennessee is Osby Lee Hire’s grandfather. Please attach a written letter to the College Heights Foundation from the local county historical society or a nationally and state accredited body recognized in genealogical research that will serve as proof of being a descendent of Martin Hire or Rev. Harvey Jent. The letter of certification must clearly state the body or society of origin and its credentials and include the student’s name, a summation of the line of kinship, a summation of documentation, and the applicant’s kinship to Osby Lee Hire. The letter must also be signed by three elected officers of the body as well as two members of the body who are not elected officers. This letter of certification or certified copy thereof may also be used to access other programs and other scholarships that require the same certification and documentation of ancestry.
