Wanella and Lavella Huddleston
Macie Wanella and Daisy Lavella Huddleston are the daughters of Flossie and Andrew Huddleston. Both Wanella and Lavella have been longtime residents of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Wanella was born on December 6, 1938, in Cumberland County, Kentucky. She began her long legacy at WKU as an undergraduate student, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. She then earned her Master of Arts and Ed.S. degrees from George Peabody College for Teachers of Vanderbilt University. She returned to the Hill to spend 37 of her 44-year teaching career in the English department.
She was active in the Bowling Green community. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and finance secretary for several years. She was also a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and a Kentucky Colonel. She passed away on April 3, 2020.
Lavella was born on October 30, 1943, in Cumberland County, Kentucky. She, too, graduated from WKU majoring in home economics.
To honor Wanella’s memory and to honor Lavella, the Wanella and Lavella Huddleston Scholarship Fund was established. The fund assists deserving WKU students in pursuing their educational goals. Through this fund, the Huddlestons’ positive impact in their community lives on.
