Valere Scott

Valere Scott is a longtime friend of WKU. A native of the Southeast, Valere is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and the University of Chicago. She is a religious studies scholar with a special interest in Judaism and a deep concern for women. In 1991, when she learned of the work the WKU Women’s Studies does and the financial struggles they faced, Valere became a donor. Her early and generous backing of Women’s Studies at WKU was crucial to its survival. Valere’s support encouraged those within the program and also provided an example for other donors to contribute to the program.

To further offer assistance, Valere established the Valere Scott Scholarship Fund in 2003. The fund serves to aid women’s studies majors who have a proven record of community service, activism or advocacy regarding women’s issues, problems, and concerns. This scholarship pays special tribute to her major support of the Women’s Studies program at WKU for over a decade. Through this fund, Valere continues to nurture young advocates in perpetuity.
