Tabitha M. Briggs
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was established in 1913, to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to those in needs. Their first act of service was with the founders who marched with suffragettes. Since then, the organization has become a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college-educated women.
Tabitha Monique Briggs was born March 16, 1980, to Gary Briggs and Nadine Niblett. After graduating from Franklin-Simpson High School in 1998, she came to WKU. While on the Hill, she pursued a degree in general studies and was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She graduated in 2004. She passed away tragically on March 11, 2005, at the age of 24.
To honor her memory, friends, family, and the sisters of Delta Sigma Theta established the Delta Sigma Theta-Tabitha M. Briggs Scholarship Fund. The fund assists deserving female WKU students who are a racial or ethnic minority and volunteer for community service for at least 10 hours. In addition to the fund, Delta Sigma Theta holds a 5K run annually to raise money and awareness for this award and Breast Cancer Awareness. Through this scholarship fund, Tabitha’s legacy lives on in perpetuity.
