Sarah Capitola McClearn Bailey

Sarah Capitola McClearn Bailey was born December 16, 1921. Sarah was a 1949 graduate of WKU, earning her degree from the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. After graduation, she pursued a career in teaching. She then spent years as an elementary school teacher. She was married to Ivan Bailey, a Korean War Veteran and longtime nurse.

Upon Sarah’s passing, Ivan established the Sarah Capitola McClearn Bailey Scholarship Fund in 1992. The fund serves to assist deserving WKU students from Butler or Muhlenberg County who are majoring in elementary education. Through this fund, Sarah’s legacy carries on in perpetuity.
