Rhea Family
This scholarship is established by Tim and Laura Rhea to honor their family ties to WKU.
Tim is from Louisville, Kentucky and graduated from WKU in 1987 with a degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting. Tim worked several years in television sports production after graduation before establishing a long career as a video producer for UPS. Laura (Ogles) came to the Hill from Scottsville, Kentucky and played for the Lady Topper Basketball team from 1983 to 1987 including back-to-back NCAA final four appearances in 1985 and 1986. Laura earned a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Government in 1987 and a Masters degree in Public Administration in 1989. After graduation Laura worked as Public Administration specialist for the state of Kentucky then in 1998 began a career at Louisville Male High School as a government teacher.
Tim and Laura met on the Hill during the Fall semester in 1986, were married in 1989, and had 2 children, Charlie and Peyton, who both attended Louisville Male High School and WKU. Charlie graduated from WKU in 2015 with a degree in Public Health, and Peyton graduated in 2018 with a degree in Sports Management.
In 2015, the Rheas were selected as WKU Family of the Year by the Parents Association and they all hold lifetime memberships to the Alumni Association.
To honor their love for WKU, Tim and Laura established the Rhea Family scholarship to assist students with financial need and a strong desire to be a Hilltopper.
