Paul B. and Ann R. Calico

The Paul B. and Ann R. Calico Scholarship Fund in Diversity was established for a worthy student in the Gordon Ford College of Business (1) with prominent academic standing, (2) who has demonstrated integrity, industriousness, and high moral character, and (3) whose financial circumstances are such that the scholarship would make a difference in his or her academic career.

Paul B. Calico received his B.A. degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Western Kentucky University in 1976, majoring in Administrative Services/Economics, with an emphasis in English. He received a four-year Regents Scholarship and was recognized as a both a Presidential Scholar and an Honors Scholar. He was inducted into Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society. He was elected as a Representative-at-Large in the then Associated Student Government, where he was voted Outstanding Congressman of the Year in 1976. In 1980, Mr. Calico received his Juris Doctorate degree, with distinction, from the University of Kentucky College of Law, where he was a Class Representative in the Student Bar Association, served as a member of the Kentucky Law Journal, and was honored as a member of the Order of the Coif.

Mr. Calico joined the Cincinnati law firm of Strauss & Troy, LPA, where he became the Chair of the firm Management Committee. His areas of practice included Employment Law, Commercial Litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Construction Law, and Administrative Law. Throughout his professional career, he earned many awards and honors, including being named one of the “Best Lawyers in America,” one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Ohio, and one of the Top 50 Lawyers in Cincinnati. He served as an Adjunct Professor in the Northern Kentucky University MBA Program and a Guest Lecturer at the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

After serving as a Senior Mediator and Arbitrator at the Center for Resolution of Disputes and on the Board of Trustees and a Member of Executive Committee of the Collaborative Law Center, Mr. Calico was appointed the Chief Mediator for the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 2010. The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals serves as the highest federal appellate court for the states of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee, subordinate only to the United States Supreme Court.

He proudly served a three-year term on the WKU Alumni Association Board of Directors, followed by a term as Parliamentarian ex officio. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the WKU Foundation.

Mr. Calico is married to Ann Rutherford Calico, an Honorary Hilltopper. They regularly attend WKU’s Alumni College and have two children, one of whom (Molly) received her Master’s Degree from WKU in 2008.
