Noma Dunn
Noma Dunn was born August 13, 1894. She graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1916 with an English degree when the university was the Normal School. She became an educator in Fayette County, Kentucky. She was married to D. Y. Dunn who established this scholarship fund in her memory.
During Noma’s time as a student at WKU, she took a class with Dr. Macon A. Leiper. He was the first English Department head and worked as a Latin professor before assuming his post as department head. He inspired Noma’s future career as an educator and a lifelong English student herself. This scholarship fund is a lasting means of expressing her high regard for Dr. Leiper.
The Noma Dunn Scholarship Fund was established to support a returning student at Western Kentucky University pursuing an English degree. Without any children of her own, she wished to use this means to continue to help and encourage students. Through this fund Noma’s memory will live on in perpetuity.
