Michael T. Bardin
This scholarship was established in 2005 by a will bequest of Michael T. Bardin as a testament to his belief in the importance of education. Mr. Bardin was born February 1, 1921 and passed away on December 12, 2005. He was a native of Greensburg, Kentucky. He joined the United States Navy in 1939 and served as a chief petty officer during World War II at Pearl Harbor. During the Pearl Harbor attack, he was occupied saving lives until being instructed to leave his sinking ship. After the attack, he was transferred to shore duty and discharged November 24, 1945.
Mr. Bardin had a very successful career after the military. After being discharged, he received his Masters degree and became principal of the Bowling Green Vocational School for nearly 40 years. He was a member of the Kentucky Education Association, National Education Association, Vocational Association of Kentucky, Citizen and National Vocational Association. This scholarship serves as a tribute to his life well spent helping others receive an education.
Mr. Bardin was a dedicated donor and friend to Western Kentucky University. His generous donations led him to become a member of the Society of 1906, Cherry Society, and the President’s Circle.
Mr. Bardin was married to Helen H. Bardin, who passed away in 2015. He was the father of Kate Perrin and the step father of Sharon Renfrow and Lisa Hall.
