Matt Rzepka

Matthew James Rzepka was born June 26, 1979, to Samuel and Christine Deka Rzepka. A native of South Bend, Indiana, Matt moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky, when he was eight years old. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1997, where he played three years of baseball and four years of football. Following graduation, he attended University of Kentucky where he played JV football, and then transferred to WKU.

Matt was an active and beloved part of the Bowling Green community. He was a member of St. Aquinas Catholic Church, an umpire and referee for Warren County Parks for 10 years, and a quarterback for Bowling Green Blitz semi-pro football team. He worked for the House of Fitness and the After School Program at Cumberland Trace Elementary School. Matt was a senior at WKU when he tragically passed away on May 2, 2002. Cumberland Trace memorialized him naming the gym’s climbing wall, Mr. Matt’s Wall.

To honor his memory, Sam and Tina established the Cumberland Trace Incentive- Matt Rzepka memorial Scholarship Fund in 2004. Proceeds from the Annual Matt Rzepka Golf Classic support the scholarships. The fund assists worthy students who attend Cumberland Trace Elementary School in Warren County, Kentucky. Each year 5th and 6th graders form Cumberland Trace Elementary submit essays titled “How a College Scholarship Will Help Me Achieve My Dreams.” Deserving students are selected to receive the award and redeem upon high school graduation. Through this fund, Matt’s legacy lives on in perpetuity.
