Mary Frances Eaton- Lavinia Hunter
The Mary Frances Eaton-Lavinia Hunter Student Aid Fund was established by Lavinia Hunter to honor the memory of Mary Frances Eaton. Mary Eaton and Lavinia Hunter were loyal and devoted WKU supporters.
Mary Eaton was born September 17, 1902 and was the daughter of William Eaton. She was a dedicated member of the Training School staff at Western Kentucky University from 1929 until 1951. During her time as an educator at the Training School, she taught in a seventh grade classroom.
Lavinia Hunter was born in Gastonia, North Carolina in 1894. She was educated at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina receiving an AB degree in 1915. Her career began with teaching Gastonia first graders from 1923-1931. During that time she also attended George Peabody College for Teachers earning her MA. The following year Lavinia moved to Bowling Green to educate the first graders in the WKU Training School, a job she held until her retirement in 1965. She had a perfect attendance record for over 30 years.
The Mary Frances Eaton-Lavinia Hunter Student Aid Fund was established to support a student attending Western Kentucky University with financial need. Through the establishment of this fund, the memory of Mary and Lavinia is honored.
