Margaret Berg
Margaret Ellen Berg was born in 1916 to Revel Leon and Ethel Constance Rogers Sullivan in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. Margaret came to WKU to major in home and consumer sciences. During her time on the Hill, she was a member of Epsilon Sigma Phi Alpha Kappa sorority. She graduated in 1942 with her bachelor’s degree. She then worked for UK as the Home Extension Agent for Logan County, Kentucky. She retired after 30 years in that position.
She also led a full life outside of academics and work. She was a longtime member of the Logan County Home Economists, the National Federation of Extension Workers, and both the First Christian Church of Bowling Green and the First Baptist Church of Russellville. She was married to Oddvar Berg until his passing and had one daughter, Harriette. Margaret passed away April 10, 2007 at the age of 91.
Margaret was known as a very generous person who wanted only to help others. To further that mission, she established the Margaret Berg Scholarship Fund in 2006. The fund assists deserving WKU students who are interested in a career in family and consumer sciences, religious studies, political science or government, engineering/materials sciences, or any major within the College of Health and Human Services. Preference is also given to students from Hopkins, Logan, Muhlenberg, or Simpson County in Kentucky. Through this fund, Margaret’s legacy continues in perpetuity.
