Makayla Rose Brumit
Makala Darlene Rose Brumit was born September 4, 1971, to Amy Jones and Louie Rose. Makala was a 1989 graduate of Central City High School Class and a 1991 graduate of Madisonville Community College. She was a member of Good Shepherd Church in Owensboro for 15 years, until moving to Bowling Green, Kentucky, and becoming a member of Living Hope Baptist Church. She was married to Mark Brumit and the couple had one child, MaKenzie.
Makala was Office Manager of Creative Interiors and Office Manager and Project Planner at Design Builder Inc., Vice President of the Bowling Green Softball Booster Club, President of the Warren County Youth Softball Board, and President of the Bowling Green Swim Team Booster Club. She was active in community service, volunteering through Curbside Ministries and Special Olympics. She was also an avid supporter of Bowling Green High School athletics, which MaKenzie participated in. Makala passed away September 23, 2011, at the age of 40, following a car accident.
To honor her memory, friends and family established the Makala Rose Brumit Scholarship in 2011. The fund assists deserving WKU students, with preference given to those who are descendants of Makala. Through this fund, Makala’s legacy lives on in perpetuity.
