Kate Whallen and Hillary B. Carroll
Kate Whallen and Hillary B. Carroll were longtime Bowling Green, Kentucky, residents. Originally a San Antonio, Texas, native, Hillary was born to Phineas Burgess Carroll and Agnes Edith Bellerby Carroll. He was a WWII veteran and graduate of Falls Business College in Nashville, Tennessee, Bowling Green Business University, and WKU. He was active in the Bowling Green community as a Kentucky Colonel and member of Masonic Lodge, Bowling Green chapter, Elk’s Lodge No. 320, Big Brothers Board of Directors, and Bowling Green Country Club.
He and Kate were owners and operators of Carroll Monument Co., which they opened on April 23, 1946. They created “Masterpieces of Memory” for their customers for many years. Hillary and Kate were married for many years until her passing in 1998 and then his in 1999.
To give back to the University, Hillary established the Kate and Hillary B. Carroll Student Aid Fund through will bequests. The fund assists deserving WKU students in pursuing their academic goals. Through this fund, Kate and Hillary’s memories live on.
