Judy Koch Ecker
Judy Koch Ecker was born December 27, 1933 in Louisville. She graduated from Atherton High School, then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and English from Western Kentucky University in 1955. She also received a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Iowa in 1957. As a student at WKU, Judy was a member of the College Heights Herald and Talisman Yearbook student publications staff.
Judy taught for thirty-seven years, primarily English and Journalism in Iowa and Kentucky. While teaching at WKU, she assisted in expanding the mass media and photography programs. Judy retired in 1998 as the journalism instructor and adviser to the award-winning Surveyor newspaper, cheerleading coach, and Academic Decathlon coach at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids.
Judy lived with her longtime partner, Frank Boone from Louisville, Kentucky. She was a mother of four children also a grandmother and great-grandmother.
The Judy Koch Ecker Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by friends and family to support a deserving WKU student participating in Student Publications. Through this fund Judy Ecker’s memory will live on in perpetuity.
