Joyce Weidemann

Joyce Weidemann Young was born in 1957, as the second daughter of Joe Henry Weidemann and Martha Arney Weidemann. A native of Franklin, Kentucky, Joyce attended West Simpson Elementary School and Franklin-Simpson Junior High. While a student at Franklin-Simpson High School, she was active in Beta Club, Future Homemakers of America, Future Business Leaders of America, and Cooperative Office Practice. She also served as a library aide. She graduated in 1975, in the top 10% of her class.

In 1977, Joyce earned an Associate of Arts degree in banking from WKU and made Bowling Green, Kentucky, her home. After graduation, she worked various jobs in banking, accounting, and law offices. She also did office work at Holley Carburetor and at the Warren Circuit Clerk’s office. Her most recent job was at the Fruit of the Loom corporate offices. Over her 25 years at Fruit of the Loor, she served in the budget department and later in the marketing research department, where she earned the title of marketing research associate.

Joyce is known for her dedication, passion, and many interests. In high school, she became an accomplished seamstress and made many of her own clothes. At another time in her life, she took up oil painting. Now she finds great joy in her Papillon dogs and devotes many hours to the Papillon Rescue, an organization that seeks homes for Papillon dogs that come from abusive situations or can no longer stay in their current homes.

To honor her sister’s prolific career and give back to the university, Dr. Wanda Jo Weidemann established the Joyce Weidemann Scholarship Fund. The fund assists deserving full-time WKU students who are graduates of Franklin-Simpson High School or any high school in Warren County, Kentucky. Recipients must also have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0. Through this fund, Joyce’s legacy lives on in perpetuity.
