James Stewart DeVries

James (Jimbo) Stuart DeVries was born July 23, 1965 in Irving, KY, out of Estill County. After graduating high school in 1985, Jimbo came to WKU. While attending WKU, Jimbo walked onto the WKU Football team and played two successful years before pursuing a spot on WKU’s Swim Team. In addition to being a student-athlete, Jimbo also became the president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, leading it back to prominence on the hill during his time at WKU.

Following Jimbo’s passing, friends and family established the James (Jimbo) Stuart DeVries scholarship fund. The fund supports 3 distinct populations. The first is a graduating Meade County senior attending WKU. The second is a member of the pledge class each semester who is voted best pledge by his brothers. And, the third scholarship recognizes the “Outstanding Walk On” voted on by the coaches for the WKU Football team.

The fund keeps Jimbo’s legacy alive and each scholarship award is another opportunity for us to celebrate Jimbo’s life.
