Harvey J. and Mae D. Dixon
Harvey J. Dixon was born January 5, 1922, in Paoli, Indiana, to Clarence and Carrie Faulkner Dixon. Harvey attended WKU, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1952, and a Master of Arts in education in 1954. He then worked as an educator and administrator in Kentucky. Following his retirement in 1981, he moved to Florida, where he worked for “World Book Encyclopedia” as a sales representative and then as an educational consultant. He also served in the US Coast Guard. While stationed in Cocoa Beach, Florida, he met and married his wife, Mae, in 1943.
Mae Dittbenner Dixon was born October 6, 1921, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Alfred and Bertha Mae Dittbenner. She graduated from the University of Louisville in 1950, before earning her master’s degree from WKU in 1952. She served as an educator, teacher, and principal in Kentucky. After 40 years of service in education, she retired to Florida and, like Harvey, worked with “The World Book” as a district manager for 15 years. She was also a member of Saint James Episcopal Church. Harvey and Mae were married until her passing January 19, 2008, and his November 25, 2008.
To further give back to the community, Harvey and Mae established the Harvey J. and Mae D. Dixon Student Aid Fund. The fund assists deserving WKU students in achieving their academic goals. Through this fund, their legacies live on in perpetuity.
