Harry Glen Hughes

Harry Glen Hughes was a native of Simpson County, a graduate of Western Kentucky State Teachers College and a lifelong farmer.

Born in 1925, Harry Glen graduated from Franklin High School, attended the University of Kentucky, and transferred to Western before graduating with a degree in Mathematics in 1948. He was a buyer for the Southwestern Tobacco Company in Kentucky and Tennessee. After briefly working for his family business, Hughes Hardware in Franklin, he became a full time farmer in Simpson County.

He was the son of the late Lee Roy Hughes, Sr. and the late Bera Walker Hughes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Anne “Pan” Hughes. They had three sons, Brad, Bill and David Hughes, and a daughter, Anne Hughes Mann. Several of his children, their spouses and their grandchildren are graduates of Western Kentucky University.

A retired Rotarian, he spent more than 30 years as the play by play announcer for Franklin-Simpson High School home football games. He was a member of the FSHS Quarterback Club, FSHS Band Boosters and the PTA.

The Harry Glen Hughes Scholarship was established in 2026 in memory of his love of all things involving agriculture, the Franklin and Simpson County community, the Franklin-Simpson School District and Western Kentucky University.
