Harry and Catherine Stephenson
Dr. Harry C. Stephenson was born December 4, 1938. Dr. Stephenson began college at the age of 16 and graduated from WKU in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. While attending WKU, he was recognized as an LY Lancaster Student and was a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, a pre-health-professional honor society. After graduation, Dr. Stephenson entered Vanderbilt University Medical School and graduated from there in 1963. This was followed with an internship and residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa.
After residency, he spent four years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany and Denver, Colorado. In 1972, he started his medical practice, Stephenson Cataract and Laser Eye Center, in Louisville, specializing in cataract surgery and glaucoma. He is has continued his work at the Center since then and is also currently an associate clinical professor at the University of Louisville.
Dr. Stephenson married Catherine Irvine in December 1967. Together, Harry and Catherine have two daughters, one son, and five grandchildren. The Stephensons have been loyal supporters of WKU and are members of the Cherry Society, Society of 1906, and Lifetime Members of the Alumni Association.
To offer encouragement and assistance to deserving students, Dr. Harry and Mrs. Catherine Stephenson established the Harry and Catherine Stephenson Scholarship Fund in 2011. Through this fund, Dr. and Mrs. Stephenson’s WKU legacy continues as they provide aid to qualifying students from Russell and Jefferson Counties.
