Harriet S. and William Tyrone Roberts, Sr., and Rita Roberts-Turner

William Tyrone Roberts, Sr., affectionately known as “Sarge” by his friends, was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and was the beloved father of WKU alumna Rita Roberts-Turner (C/O ’93). William was a proud graduate of Cameron High School in Nashville where he played on the basketball team and was an active member of the Cameron High School Alumni Association. William gave his life to the service of his country by joining the U.S. Army shortly after high school and was a proud Vietnam Veteran, having received the Purple Heart award among other commendations. William also served in the Tennessee National Guard for 27 years before retiring as a master sergeant. After retiring, he spent his life ensuring that the sacrifice of military men and women across the country was not forgotten, by dedicating his time to veteran’s service projects.

He and his wife, Harriet S. Roberts, took the most pride in seeing their children, Rita and Tyrone Jr., excel as well as their grandchildren and countless youth throughout the community. The Roberts/Turner Military Scholarship Fund honors their legacy and commitment to service and scholarship as well as their love of all things WKU.
