Gwyneth B. Davis
Gwyneth B. Davis was born to Olive E. and George H. Davis in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania. Gwyneth earned her law degree from DePaul University Law School. She then began working as an attorney in North Carolina. There she pursued her passion for women’s rights and gender equality and dedicated herself to bettering the lives of women throughout the state.
Gwyneth served as an attorney with Legal Services at Northwest North Carolina in Winston-Salem. She was also active in the community, founding the Forsyth County Women Attorney Association and participating in the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys (NCAWA). She worked toward the objectives of NCAWA at both the state and local levels and contributed to the passage of the state’s first equitable distribution law. In 1984, she served as president of the NCAWA.
Gwyneth then moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky, where she continued her work. She served as the domestic relations commissioner for Warren County, and as a lawyer with Huddleston Brothers Attorneys. She was married to Alan Anderson, who was a professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at WKU for 27 years. In 1988, she passed away after a three-year battle with cancer, at the age of 40.
To honor her legacy, the Gwyneth B. Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund was established. The fund assists dedicated female WKU students majoring in history with a concentration in pre-law. Through this scholarship fund, Gwyneth’s legacy of activism lives on in perpetuity.
