Frances and Lawrence Bickett
Frances Matilda Hayden Bickett was born August 21, 1913, to Will and Catherine Blandford Hayden. Frances was a lifelong resident of Calvary, Kentucky. After graduating from St. Catherine College in Springfield, Kentucky, she attended WKU. While on the Hill, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Elementary Education in 1939. She then taught in Lebanon and Marion Counties for over 20 years.
Lawrence Benedict Bickett was born December 22, 1911, to Joseph Arnold Bickett and Mary Agnes Mills. Lawrence was a lifelong farmer. He and Frances married on June 16, 1947, and remained so until his passing on December 25, 1995. Frances passed away on August 29, 2008. They had four daughters: Catherine, Marty, Bay, and Ellen.
To honor the memory of her parents, Marty established the Frances and Lawrence Bickett Scholarship Fund in 2012. The fund assists sophomore, junior, and first-semester senior WKU students who are majoring in a field in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences and possess personal qualities of character, integrity, dependability, industriousness, and human compassion. Through this fund, Frances and Lawrence’s legacies live on in perpetuity.
