Elmond Gary
Elmond Gary was born in 1911 to parents Gilbert Gary and Janie Lee Gary. A Butler County native, Elmond co-founded Gary Brothers Crushed Stone Company with his brother Hayward. He was the husband of Dorothy Johnson Gary, who he was married to until his passing in 1995 at the age of 84. The couple had a son, Vernon Gary. The Garys were all members of Twelfth Street Church of Christ in Bowling Green, KY.
Vernon Gary is a 1960 graduate of Bowling Green Business University, which eventually merged with the Gordon Ford College of Business at WKU. There he received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He then went onto become a working partner in Gary Brothers Crushed Stone Company. After 28 years in the business, Vernon retired. He married his wife Nelda Ann Barnes, who also graduated from WKU through the Business University, in 1956, and the two have three children together. Like their parents, all three children attended and graduated from WKU.
The Garys have been faithful supporters of the Bowling Green and WKU communities for many years. To further that tradition, Elmond and Vernon Gary established the Elmond Gary and Family Athletic Scholarship Fund. The purpose of this fund is to provide support to WKU students who are also members of the Lady Topper basketball team. Through their generosity, students assisted in their academic and athletic goals by this fund carry the Garys legacy in perpetuity.
