Dr. William Gladstone Begley
Dr. William Gladstone Begley, II was born to Ernest Edward and Virginia Bunch Begley and was a Hazard, Kentucky native. William graduated from Centre College before attending University of Louisville Medical School and then serving his residency in otolaryngology at their medical center. After finishing his studies, he had a prolific career in medicine. He was a lieutenant commander in the Navy Medical Corp, member of the active staff at Greenview Regional Hospital, former chief of staff at Bowling Green-Warren County Hospital and Greenview, and former chief of surgery at Greenview.
He was also active in his community. He was past president of Kentucky Society of Otolaryngology, member of American Rhinologic Society, and a trustee on the board of trustees at Greenview, American Medical Association, Kentucky Medical Association, and Warren County Medical Society. He was a fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. He was a member of the Presberyterian Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
William was married to Jenna Anna Parker Begley, and they had a son, Ernest Edward Begley II, and two daughters, Joanna Caroline Begley and Virginia Louise Eidson. He passed away on August 12, 1999.
To honor his memory, Dr. Julia Roberts and family established the Dr. William Gladstone Begley Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund assists deserving WKU students in pursuing their academic goals. Through this fund, William’s legacy lives on in perpetuity.
