Donald W. Bailey
Dr. Donald Wycoff Bailey was born December 17, 1933 to V.C. and Juanita Raybourne Bailey. Donald graduated from Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana before attending Vanderbilt University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1955. He then attended Emory University where he received his master’s and doctorate in 1958. Donald participated in Phi Delta Theta from 1964-1965. He taught biology at Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia. Donald then started his time on the Hill in 1962 where he taught in the biology department until he retired in 1996.
Donald was a member of First Baptist Church of Bowling Green for 49 years. There he was a devoted Bible teacher of the Trinity Men’s Sunday School class for more than 35 years and also served as a deacon. He was married to Dorthy Awalt Bailey, and they had three children, Elizabeth, Stephen, and Mark. The couple was married for 53 years before his passing on July 1, 2011 at the age of 77.
To honor his memory, friends and family established the Donald W. Bailey Pre-Med Scholarship Fund. The fund serves to assist pre-med students just like Donald did for many years. Through this fund, his legacy on the Hill and beyond continues in perpetuity.
