Dan Troutman

Dan D. Troutman attended high school at Milltown High School in Milltown, Indiana where he graduated with Salutatorian honors in 1975. He earned 14 varsity sports letters and was selected to the All BRAC Conference Team and State High School All Star team in Baseball. After graduating, Mr.Troutman attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky where he graduated with honors and received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.

Mr. Troutman began his professional career working for Pittsburgh Testing Laboratory both while in college as a summer job and after graduation. He worked with this firm at Braidwood and Byron Nuclear Power Facilities as well as the Chicago (Chief Chemist & Assistant District Manager) and Cleveland (District Manager) District Offices. He had various responsibilities ranging from State highway construction projects to performing building inspections for environmental hazards, to investigating coating problems, cause of failures, specification preparation and formulation experimentation. He was certified as a radiographer and was Chicago District ARSO. He was certified under ANSI N45.2.6 as a Level III Inspector in multiple disciplines.

Through mergers, Mr. Troutman’s employer became Professional Service Industries, Inc., and he was promoted to Division Manager with his primary office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mr. Troutman was directly responsible for supervision of company operations in nine states with five offices. Along with Management responsibilities, his technical duties included supervision of various asbestos testing projects; prepared asbestos abatement specifications; while establishing asbestos testing laboratories in three cities in the northeast.

In March 1988, Mr. Troutman left to become a co-founder of GSC Environmental Laboratories, Inc., located in Augusta, Georgia and served as President until the sale of this firm to his brother in 1999. During this time he supervised and conducted Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III Environmental Site Assessments; performed cost analysis; conducted building inspections for presence of asbestos-containing materials; prepared asbestos removal plans and/or specifications; supervised asbestos abatement projects; performed final visual compliance inspections; provided air monitoring and field laboratory analysis of air samples using NIOSH Method 7400; conducted field surveys for underground storage tanks; collected soil and water samples; determined extent of soil contamination and suggested recommendations for remediation; prepared plans for and supervised underground storage tank removal. He also performed radiation safety training in conjunction with State of Georgia Radioactive Material License and supervised the in house chemical analysis laboratory and performed various construction management duties.

After the sale of GSC, Mr. Troutman co-founded Alternative Construction & Environmental Solutions, Inc., located in Augusta, Georgia where he continues to work today and serves as President. His responsibilities are similar as those with GSC.

Mr. Troutman currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Salvation Army and Phinizy Center for Water Sciences, both located in Augusta. He also serves on the Advisory Board for Safe Homes of Augusta. He donates time to various other charities in the Augusta area serving as their auctioneer for various fundraisers. He has held position on various professional boards during as well.

For recreation and enjoyment, Mr. Troutman began flying in 1988 and is rated as a Commercial Aircraft Multi-Engine Pilot with more than 8,000 hours of flying experience. In addition, he has been a basketball official in both high school and college, working in 11 college conferences in the southeast. He has also served for 9 years as the Tournament Chairman of the E-Z-GO Vaughn Taylor Championship Golf Tournament, an AJGA Junior golf tour event held in Augusta. His work has allowed him to travels extensively in the U.S. while visiting all 50 states and extensive travel abroad. He also enjoys cooking, hunting, and fishing.

This scholarship fund was established in honor of Mr. Dan Troutman and assists full-time students that are pursuing a Chemistry major, and studying analytical chemistry at Western Kentucky University. The purpose of this fund is to assist other aspiring students in the same field to succeed as well.
