Charlene Bell Wells

Charlene Bell Wells was born on November 12, 1944, to Charlie and Effie Polley Bell. A native of Magnolia, Kentucky, Charlene attended LaRue County High School. Following graduation, she came to WKU. As a student on the Hill, she was an active member of Phi Mu Sorority.

After earning her degree, Charlene had a prolific career as an elementary school teacher. She taught in the Department of Defense Schools at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Ansbach Germany, as well as in Atlanta Public Schools in Atlanta, Georgia.

She was married to James V. Wells. Together they had one son, Michael Wells. Charlene and James were married for many years until his passing and then hers on October 8, 2019.

Charlene included Western Kentucky University Scholarships in her estate plans establishing the Charlene Bell Wells Scholarship Fund. The fund assists deserving WKU students in pursuing their academic goals. Through this fund, Charlene’s legacy lives on in perpetuity.
