American Legion Post 23
American Legion Post 23 seeks to maintain the mission “veterans helping veterans.” Post 23 is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky and offers many services to veterans in the community. They offer trained service officers to assist all veterans with VA paperwork, forms, or to answer any questions. Along with bingo three nights a week, free van service to the Nashville VA twice a week, and monthly meetings, they have a group that visits all veterans currently living in local nursing homes on a monthly basis. They also continually assist homeless veterans with finding homes and jobs. In the past seven years, Post 23 has given over two million dollars back to the community.
To further give back, Post 23 established two funds through the College Heights Foundation: the American Legion Post 23 Scholarship Fund in February of 1990 and the American Legion Post 23 ROTC Endowment Scholarship Fund in 1995. The American Legion Post 23 Scholarship Fund assists deserving incoming WKU freshmen who are graduates within Bowling Green or Warren County, while the American Legion Post 23 ROTC Endowment Scholarship Fund serves to assist and encourage deserving students who are in the ROTC Program at WKU, plan to serve in the armed forces after graduation, and have not qualified for the national ROTC award. Through these funds, Post 23 continues to be a generous fixture in the Bowling Green community.
